My space invaders reskin proposal is called BOYOS. Protect the men, shoot the clouds!
Essentially what the player is doing is trying to bounce raining men faces off of their character, a gunbrella. They also have to dodge rain drops and work to destroy the cloud to clear the level, with the high score how many men they were able to save before they fell to the floor.
Worried about overwhelming the player with too much multitasking, and for my own sanity, the difficulty will come in the amount of clouds rather than a variety of different mechanics. As an extra, if time permits, a second enemy that flies much faster is
This is a quick mock-up I did using online images and so isn't representative of the art style, but I would like to take from that style of pixel skyline with a gradiant into sky. The billboard updates with the amount of men saved, while the lives theoretically dim the lights as each is taken away.
I'M NOT GOING TO LIE TO YOU, BLOG, IT DID NOT GO DOWN WELL. The couple of people I showed my presentation to got it, but Zuby, man, he was not on board. He found it too surreal, questioning things like the gunbrella - 'why can't it be a little woman firing a gun', which I found surprisingly literal. We had a talk and to get to the point where Zuby could understand the gameplay, the concept had been butchered to be the most vanilla, boring thing that has come out of a space invaders reskin.
Thankfully, I thought this might happen.
ALWAYS HAVE A BACK UP PLAN, GUYS. My last slide went quickly over my other ideas in order of complexity. Zuby liked the Monster Tears ideas the best, so, there we go.
This is the drawing I did the night before the tutorial, but on the day when Zuby was explaining his vision he used hydra heads with a crossbow, I'd like to have two spawn points be two giant eyes and when you shoot them, they close. I guess the player is just a jerk.
